Custom Wooden Puzzles: How the Process Works
We make custom wooden puzzles to order. Below is an overview of how this work is done and what typically happens from the first idea to the finished piece.

A custom wooden puzzle starts with an idea that has to be turned into a design suitable for cutting. It might be a family photo, a child's drawing, an organization's logo, or an illustration prepared specifically for a set of pieces. It is important that the source image is sharp enough, because fine lines and shadows lose contrast when transferred to wood. That is why, at the early stage, we discuss the size of the puzzle, the number of pieces, and how intricate the design should be.
Material choice affects both the look and the feel of the finished puzzle. Different wood species vary in density, color, and grain, and thin plywood works well for small pieces and clean cuts. Laser cutting keeps edges neat and allows complex outlines, but each species reacts differently to heat, so it is worth testing a sample before full production. The final surface treatment, such as light sanding or a matte protective finish, depends on whether the puzzle will be used as a toy, a gift, or a decorative piece.
For children's sets, large pieces, rounded corners, and a clear assembly guide are usually most important. For adult puzzles, a finer design, intricate outlines, and subtle transitions between colors are more common. Educational puzzles may include letters, numbers, maps, or diagrams, in which case it is especially important that text stays readable after cutting. In every case, it is best to clarify in advance who the puzzle is for so that the right level of difficulty and format can be chosen.
